Code 10/1 is meant to be a respectful inquiry. It is not a demand to know someone else's mood. 'Would you like the opportunity to tell me your mood-using the mood code?' There may be no response. There does not have to be a response. The person asked should see the benefit of defining his or her mood in a more definite way than through behaviour. '1 can tell you my mood. You do not have to guess at it or try to figure it out from my behaviour.' Just as you might say, 'A penny for your thoughts', you might casually say, '10/1 to you.'
