Code 11 - Constructed code is a different concept from the other codes. Formally known as code A in the 'de Bono Code' Book.
In the Constucted Code each number has a special meaning. In de Bono B the numbers are arbitrary and do not have any attached meaning. If de Bono code A had been placed first there would have been confusion, if someone tried to figure out the meaning of numbers which had no meaning.
 
Use of Code 11
In code 11, each number acts like a word in a sentance which you will construct. Each number refers to a process.
 
Pronunciation
Each number is pronounced directly as a single digit number. Even if there is a string of numbers each one is pronounced separately. So 776 is pronounced 'seven, seven, six' in de Bono code A. There are no exceptions to this even if a coding becomes very familiar.
 
Overlap and Addition
Code 11 works by overlap. The different factors or concepts provided by the basic grid are placed together to indicate that these meanings are being communicated.
These 'ingredients' are all present.
Just as a painter may overlay one colour on to another to get a final shade so different concepts are laid over one another to give the final meaning.
The sequence in which the numbers are used does play some part - as will be seen -but the overlap is more important.
Thus 95 has the concepts of time and absence. So it means 'past tense'.
The code 96 has the elements of time and output. So this signifies the 'future tense'.
 
Familiarity, Reference and Use
Some of the codes will become very familiar and will enter common discourse. Everyone will come to understand them.
Other codes may need to be interpreted via a reference system as in a pocket dictionary, electronic notebook or computer (any such use is subject to licensing of the copyright).
From time to time an individual may seek to construct a meaning out of the elements for instant use. The danger is that the recipient may not get the full meaning of the intended message.
