Assessment

There are times when it is necessary to assess a performance by another person. It may be necessary to express satisfaction or dissatisfaction - or various stages in between. Just as some Inuit languages have twenty words between like and dislike, so it can be useful to have a wide range of assessment possibilities.
Code 16 provides a ready-made repertoire of assessment concepts. It is also possible to extend this range by saying, 'This is between - and -'. Or you might say, 'This is mainly - with some element of -.'

The assessment code is neutral and impersonal. It is true that a person is making a judgement but the judgement is itself defined. There is a big difference between 'making a judgement' and 'choosing a judgement'.

There need be no secret about the assessment code. Those being assessed can know the full range of assessment options that are open to them. This makes the assessment more powerful, because they know what has not been chosen.

Nothing that is subjective can be strictly fair but having the code reduces the expression of personal prejudices.

The code can equally be applied to performance of a task by an individual or team, and to general performance by an individual or a team.
