The range is great:'What are you going to do this afternoon?'
'What are you going to do this summer?'
'What career are you going to choose?'
'What are you going to do with your life?'
The framework or context needs to be made very clear if it has not already been made clear by the context of the conversation.
The request does not demand a great deal of detail. It is up to the person who responds to choose the level of detail. It is possible to reply in very broad terms:
'I intend to see how things go.'
'I have not decided yet'
'I want a career helping people.'
If the questioner wants more details these can be asked for.
In a way this code 'puts someone on the spot'. There is a direct request. The questioner may already have some idea of what the answer might be, but is now asking a direct question.
