This is advocacy or case-making. The writer of the material is seeking to make a case.
The soundness of the reasons put forward and the honesty of the exploration are not at all guaranteed by the coding. The writer maybe highly selective with information and may offer a prejudiced point of view. The important point (and the difference from code 7/6) is that the writer is clearly setting out to make a case and is not pretending to review the matter in an objective manner. The efforts in a courtroom of both prosecution and defence teams would fall into this category. So would many of the writings of newspaper columnists. There is nothing wrong with advocacy so long as it is clearly indicated as such. It would be hoped that the 7/7 label would be applied to the piece by the author himself. Advocacy should not be ashamed of being one-sided -and should not pretend to be objective. It helps if the position taken is clearly indicated at the beginning of the piece.
