You give me what you think my point of view might be and I shall give you what I think your point of view might be.
In the CoRT Thinking Lessons there is an attention-directing tool called OPV. This means focusing on the other person"s view. It means seeking to stand in the shoes of the other person to see what that person might be thinking.
This code is particularly useful when a conflict is building up (the process of "confliction") or where a conflict is actually is progress.
Once you can see what the other person perceives you can correct any misperceptions. In the same way, when you make an effort to see things from the other party"s point of view, then it becomes easier to design a way forward out of the conflict.
Instead of each party just pushing their own point of view and sense of grievance , there is now an effort to understand the other party.
In practice the OPV has solved many disputes and fights.
