Fights, Factions, disputes and far too much internal politics. Not a peaceful place in which to get on with the work.
Some people like fights. Some cultures encourage fights and suggest that if you do not take part in the politics you will be left behind. People in such organizations come to spend most of their mental energy and a considerable amount of time in disputes and political jockeying. To people in such an organization it seems normal. Are not all organizations like this? A newcomer from a more tranquil organization notices the difference at once. The tranquil spires of academia and even the peace often contain fierce bickerings and jealousies.
