Direct your attention to the matters on which we agree. Direct your attention to the matters on which we disagree. Separate out
In any negotiation or dispute situation this sort of attention directing can be a big help. Code 2/9 comes into the third section of the CoRT programme as ADI (Agree, Disagree, Irrelevant).
In many disputes it often turns out that there is really a lot of agreement. The points of disagreement are important but minor compared to the agreed points.
Directing attention to the points of disagreement allows those specific matters to be dealt with. It now becomes easier to design a way forward which can satisfy both parties.
In disputes it may often seem that the people involved are in total disagreement and conflict over all matters. Code 2/9 can give a much clearer picture.
In disputes it is neither normal nor usual for the parties to spell out the points of agreement. Code 2/9 provides a specific mechanism which allows either party to request this scan.
It often turns out that many points are being argued about are really "irrelevant" and can therefore be ignored. The code 2/9 scan can make it clear which points are irrelevant and not important in the dispute.
Both sides in a dispute should lay out the points, they see under each of the scan stages: what is not agreed: and what is irrelevant. There may not be full agreement on these points but at least they can be discussed.
