What are the views of the other people involved/ what might be the thinking of the other people involved?
Code 2/5 is equivalent to the OPV (Other peoples views) tool in both CoRT and DATT. This is a very important attention-directing tool.
At school, problems are abstract and real people are never involved. In life, however, real people are involved in almost any thinking that is taking place. Code 2/5 is a formal request to consider all these other people. What are their views? What are their values? What are their thoughts?
The first part of the process is to identify the other people involved. Who are they? The second part of the process is to seek "to get into shoes of the other people" and see the world through their eyes.
There is some overlap with code 2/3 because other people are factors that need to be considered. Because other people are so important they also deserve a special attention-directing tool.
There may be people who are very directly involved: like two taxi drivers in an argument. There are then people who are less directly involved: like the passengers in the taxis and other motorists trying to get by. Less directly involved are bystanders and the taxi owners. The police become involved if they are called.
The use of code 2/5 (as the OPV tool) has dissolved many conflicts. Once each party makes the effort to see the thinking of the other party, then the conflict evaporates.
It may be noted that code 2/5 is very similar to code 6/2 (of the frantic code). The exchange of views is like a particular type of code 2/5. There is no problem with such an overlap. Under certain circumstances different codes may achieve similar results.
