Can you recognize this as a standard situation? How would you analyse this? Is it divisible to make it easier to think about ?
The purpose of code 2/10 is to make the thinking easier. It corresponds to RAD (Recognize, Analyse, Divide) in the DATT programme. If you can recognize something as a standard situation then you may know the standard response. This is like a doctor diagnosing an illness and applying the standard treatment. You may wish to think beyond the standard response to a standard situation. But at least you know it is there as a fall back position. If something is not immediately recognizable then there is a need to analyse the situation to see if the components are recognizable. The analysis effort seeks to break down the situation into its real components. What things have come together to cause this situation? The "divide" element is quite different from analysis. Analysis seeks to identify the true components. "Divide" seeks to divide up a situation into "arbitrary" chunks. These chunks are chosen for convenience. The situation is broken down into "bite-sized" pieces so it can be digested more easily. The chosen divisions help the thinker or thinkers to direct attention to one part after another instead of just thinking about the whole. The distinction between "analyse" and "divide" is an important one. At any moment it is useful to be clear about what is being done.
