A plea for creativity does not by itself deliver creativity. But creative effort does produce creative results. If people set their minds to being creative they are more open to new ideas and more inclined to explore ideas which do not seem beneficial at first sight. This plea for creativity may be followed by a formal use of lateral-thinking tools by those who know them. Or, the creative effort can stay at the more general level of the weaker brainstorming approach.
