If the point is of great importance to one party then this is the code to be used. The way the other party responds may determine whether the relationship goes forward or stalls.
People have a right to ask questions. But in most circumstances they do not have a right to demand an answer. They do, however, have the right to react to the outcome.
There is always a suspicion that someone who does not want to be completely honest must have things to hide. This is not always the case. There is the matter of timing. There is also the matter of understanding complex situations. Then things can be misinterpreted.
