I want to register a complaint. I want to bring this to your attention because I think you would like to know about it.
Complaints can range from fully justified complaints, as in the breakdown of a brand new car, to trivial complaints form people who are pernickety and enjoy complaining.
Code 1/11 clearly indicates that what follows is a complaint. Most organizations welcome feedback because it allows them to improve the quality of their service. There may also be things they do not yet know about.
The pre-code allows a person to launch directly into the substance of the complaint without a lengthy preamble.
The code also allows more domestic complaints, which can now be put forward as neutral statements rather than as personal attacks.
1/11 someone always leaves the cap off the toothpaste.
1/11 I always seem to get asked to do the washing up.
1/11 the walls of the hotel room allow too much sound through.
1/11 your sales assistant in the hardware section did not seem to know his job.
1/11 although you attend every meeting you never seem to contribute.
1/11 the budget cuts make it possible to delivery quality.
1/11 the training in creativity is very old-fashioned .
1/11 the supervisor is a bully.
A genuine complaint always implies that something can be put right. It is not much use complaining that you are too short or too tall. But there may be a point in complaining that you are too fat. There may also be a point in complaining that door heights are too low for tall people.
The emphasis of code 1/11 is on a gentle constructive complaint rather than a fierce attack.
